Campaigning
Would you like to get your voice heard? Have you got an issue that you feel needs to be raised?
Campaigning is about recognising issues of national and local importance to older people and raising awareness of them in order to influence outcomes. We have been involved in helping to form the Isle of Wight Older Voices.
Isle of Wight Older Voices have formed circles of people across the Island, who may either represent clubs and groups with older members or are individuals over 50, who would like to get more involved in community affairs.

Scam Buster Campaign
Age Concern Isle of Wight is concerned about scams being used to defraud the public out of their money, particularly older vulnerable people who are considered easy targets.
Many older people on the Isle of Wight are not aware of the tactics used by these organisations. As one local resident told us “I travelled alone all the way to Ryde from my home to hand over a £2000 money order to someone I thought was going to invest it for me. I never saw him or my money again. How embarrassed I feel”.
The Scam Buster Campaign aims to inform our older residents of these schemes and how to recognise when they are being targeted. Age Concern Isle of Wight is working together with Trading Standards and has enlisted the help of the caring agencies who support older people in the community. The objective is to leaflet as many people as possible, to educate them of the bogus offers that could come through their door, or by telephone, and what to do and who to go to if they suspect it’s a scam.
