Snapshot

A visit to the Celebrating Age Festival 2007 ignited a passion for Nordic Walking for Shella Parry, from Porchfield. Shella, an Alexander Technique Teacher tried Nordic Walking, along with Ball Room Dancing and Juggling at the festival, as well as running the Movement to Music session, for Independent Arts. Having enjoyed the Nordic Walking session so much, when Shella won the cash prize draw at the festival she jumped at the chance of buying a pair of Nordic Walking poles. Since buying the poles, Shella has enjoyed a Nordic Walking holiday in the Brecon Beacons with her sister, the first time the pair have gone on holiday together since their childhood. They are also planning a holiday for next year too. Shella believes that with the Nordic Walking poles she is able to walk further and her stamina has increased. Nordic Walking burns 20% more calories and uses 90% of the body’s muscles. Shella is keen to encourage people to attend this year’s festival, “There are so many things of interest, and it is such a good opportunity to try something new”.
