Scamnesty 2010

Drop it in to drop them in it

Age Concern Isle of Wight is promoting ‘Scamnesty 2010’, which calls on the people of the Isle of Wight to fight back against the  scourge of mass marketed scam mailings . The campaign run by Trading Standards and the Office of Fair Trading, aims to help  put a stop to scams by encouraging people to collect any scam mailings they receive and dropping them into designated Scamnesty bins.
Nearly half of the UK adult population has been targeted by fraudsters. The average amount lost per scam is £850.  For those aged over 55 it is £1,261.
We have a bin at our Age Concern offices at 14 Pyle St, Newport and others can be found across the Island.
If you know or suspect any scam please drop it in at one of the collection points or report it online at www.consumerdirect.gov.uk/scamnesty
