ACIW .. Advocacy ... Someone beside You

Free and confidential for anyone over 50 years of age.

Do you have a problem that is worrying you, and you don’t know where to turn?

An advocate from Age Concern Isle of Wight may be able to help you.

An advocate is a volunteer who:

Has been specially trained to help you tell other people your point of view;
Will help you get information so you can make your own choices;
Will represent your views to others if you feel unable to do so;
Will provide you with support to make up your own mind about an issue;
An advocate can help you write letters and fill in forms. They can also make telephone calls on your behalf and attend meetings with you or on your behalf.

How the Service Works:

After an initial assessment the Advocacy Co-ordinator will allocate an advocate for the issue(s) involved. Advocacy volunteers are trained and fully supported by the Advocacy Service.

An advocate will help you until:

You both agree that the problem has been sorted out to your satisfaction or until there in nothing more that an advocate can help you with. The Service aims to cover the whole of the Isle of Wight and will visit you in your own home. They can also arrange to see you in a day centre, residential or nursing home or in hospital.

The Service is free of charge and confidential.
