Shopping

In 2007/08, 100% of clients surveyed were satisfied with the shopping services and said they would recommend them to others.

The Home Shopping Service supports vulnerable older people who are unable to shop for themselves.

*Due to financial restrictions, please contact the ACIW office for up to date information on this service.

Some clients need the shopping service for a short period of time whilst recovering from illness or if family members are on holiday, and others rely on it to provide them with their food supplies on a regular basis. There are three options, and each includes a £5 charge per shop that goes towards administration and transport costs.

Home Delivery Service – this service is available weekly and operates in partnership with the Co-Op. Clients’ shopping lists are taken over the telephone and food is delivered to their door. Someone must be at home to receive the goods and payment is by cheque only.

List Shop – a volunteer will collect the shopping list from the client, do the shopping and deliver it to their home.

Assisted Shop – clients are escorted by a volunteer and supported whilst undertaking their shopping.

Volunteers undertake both list and assisted shops, and our response time to requests for help will depend on us having a suitable volunteer in the client’s locality. All our volunteers have been interviewed, referenced, and carefully screened. The Shopping Development Officer makes a home visit to clients to determine individual need and will personally match and introduce volunteers.

Cost

We make a small charge of £5 for our Shopping Services. We work flexibly to help clients get the most from the service and keep their costs to a minimum e.g. taking advantage of special offers and arranging a fortnightly service for those who only need small amounts of shopping.

What to do next?

Contact us on 01983 525282 or email us. Pippa Kent, our Shopping Development Officer, will be able to discuss how the service can best meet clients’ needs. Pippa is in the office on Monday, Wednesday and Thursday.
